Examinations

We provide examinations for all pets: wellness, puppy/kitten check-ups, senior visits, and of course, sick pets. For vaccinations, we tailor each protocol to the individual pet depending on lifestyle and where they live. We offer the safest vaccines possible such as 3 year Rabies and Distemper/parvo vaccinations.

“It is clear the HAH staff like what they do. It shows in their caring & compassion, no matter the occasion for our visit. We have entrusted them to care for several of our family pets; our extended family members have as well.” Shelby Guthrie

“Always a pleasant experience at HAH. Techs, docs, admin all very professional, but also warm and caring. Wouldn’t go ANYWHERE else for pet care.” Jacqueline Hutton

Microchips

We recommend Save This Life Microchip as a permanent identification system. Watch this video: https://youtu.be/sG0eHkBqO5M

How it works:

A veterinarian simply injects a tiny microchip about the size of a grain of rice (12mm) beneath the surface of your pet’s skin between the shoulder blades.  The process is similar to a routine shot and takes only a few seconds. No anesthetic is required and it will last throughout the life of your pet.  The microchip is read by passing a scanner over the pet’s shoulder blades.  The scanner reads the chip and displays the pets’ unique code.  If your pet gets lost and is taken to an animal shelter or veterinarian, they will scan the pet and retrieve the identification number.

Save This Life has patented a way to use Google to help you find your lost pet! Each Save This Life microchip number is searchable in Google. When someone finds a pet and Googles the microchip number, they can privately contact the pet owner through text and email. The pet owner receives a GPS map of where the person who found their pet is located!

Radiology & Ultrasound

Our on-site, digital X-ray machine provides high-quality radiographs to aid in the quick diagnosis of many disorders. The images are taken and seen within seconds. They have extreme clarity and high definition that allow the understanding of some things that wouldn’t be evident in ordinary X-ray film.

We can perform ultrasounds, ECG and endoscopic procedures here at the hospital. We also have a board-certified radiologist that will come here for specialized cardiac or abdominal ultrasounds for more complicated cases.

Laser Therapy

Hillsboro Animal Hospital has been working with several pets to help regain normal function with physical rehabilitation. Our doctors use a range of motion stretching along with a therapeutic laser to help patients with mobility problems. We have had impressive results with osteoarthritis, muscle degeneration, post-surgical patients and neurologic patients. For many animals, laser therapy can improve your pets’ quality of life drastically.

Laboratory

We have an in-house lab so most tests can be done on site and usually have results quickly. Having these machines helps getting the diagnosis and treatment plan sooner for your pet. Our bloodwork panels include a cbc, chemistry and electrolytes. We can also run urinalysis, cytologies, parasite testing and many more tests. We also utilize an outside lab for biopsy results and specialized testing.

Dentistry

We can now provide full service dentals for your pet. There are several advantages to having dental radiographs done before a dentistry like being able to see above the gum line to evaluate disease at the roots. Many times there are bone loss, decay, and infection that lies underneath and can only be detected with radiographs. Having this capability allows us to better perform oral management and save your pet from unnecessary pain from molar slab fractures, infected tooth pockets and more. If needed, we can perform oral surgery including extractions with gingival flaps and more.

Surgery

Our state of the art surgical suite with ECG, pulse ox and blood pressure monitoring provides for the performance of a wide variety of surgical procedures including spays, neuters, cystotomys, splenectomys and orthopedic surgeries.

Our CO2 laser is ideal for growth removals. It minimizes bleeding and helps in pain management.

“Dr. Newton, the vet techs, and the front desk staff are always kind, accomodating, and generous with their time. I feel lucky to have such a great vet for my dog!” Diane Saunders

Heartworm/ Flea prevention

We carry many types of heartworm and flea prevention for your pet. Depending on your pets lifestyle and where they live, certain brands may be better suited for your pet. Our team can discuss different options with you and help you decide what would work best for you and your pet.

Medical Boarding

We only board animals with medical needs such as diabetics or pets that need medicating and special attention. All dogs are walked several times a day and have warm bedding to lay on. All cats are kept seperate in an isolated room to keep them stress-free. Fresh water and food are provided.
