Boarding FAQ's
What can I bring with my dog or cat bring with them to board?
At Hillsboro Pet Resort, we like our guests to have some familiar things with them from home to make them as comfortable as possible while they stay with us BUT there is a limit as to the number of things that can fit with them in their private runs. We typically allow the following per dog or cat:
2 toys per pet
A small blanket, towel, or sheepskin mat (1 per pet)
Owner Provided Treats
Owner Provided Food
Things we DO NOT allow:
Glass
Raw food
Beds with stuffing
Leashes, Harnesses and Collars (flea collars are an exception)
Very large, bed-sized blankets + Blankets or Towels with lots of holes in them (to prevent strangulation accidents)
Crates (they do not typically allow for enough room in the runs for the dogs or cats to be comfortable.)
Food and water bowls (Unless your pet has an allergy and needs a special type of bowl, we provide stainless steel food and water bowls, slow feeders and spill guards. No need to bring yours from home!)
Rawhides (we try our very best to provide a safe environment for our guests and rawhides are particularly dangerous treats due to choking hazards.)
Beds, blankets, or pillows with stuffing.
If I have multiple dogs or cats in my family, can they stay together?
Of course! We offer several different sized accommodations for your pets, but we do require that dogs and cats be kept separate during their stay. Our extra-large suites are large enough to accommodate 2 large dogs or 3 medium-sized dogs. Our small dog suites can accommodate up to 3 small dogs.
If you have four or more dogs, depending on the size, we may be able to accommodate them in the same run with their siblings but please call us to be sure the size will still be comfortable for them. If your dogs are a particularly large breed, we may suggest a different option. We are always trying to keep the comfort of your animals foremost in our minds.
For cats, we offer kitty condos which can fit two medium sized cats. Our cattery is separated from our large dog area for sound control and is even on a separate climate control system to help the kitties from smelling the dogs.
Is the kennel Climate Controlled?
Yes, it is! We realize that most of our guests are house animals and need to maintain a high level of comfort while staying with us. We monitor the temperature in the boarding areas constantly and keep a close watch on the weather to be sure we close the private run doors in case of extreme heat, cold or storms.
What vaccinations does my dog need?
To keep our dog boarding guests safe and healthy, we require all dogs to be up to date on vaccinations for rabies, distemper/parvo, and Bordetella. Canine influenza is highly recommended.
Are reservations required for boarding?
In order to keep our facility one of the safest in the area, we depend on having the right level of staffing for the number of dogs every day. For this reason, we do require reservations for overnight boarding. If you find yourself in a jam and need last-minute accommodations, we will do our best to fulfill your request.
My pets take medication. Can you administer medication to my pets?
Yes, we’re able to administer many oral and topical medications for a small fee. Please bring all medications in their original containers with clearly written instructions. We also do offer Intensive Care and Special Needs Package designed for older and special needs pets which includes unlimited and specialized medication administration.
Can my dog get kennel cough?
Canine cough, also referred to as kennel cough, is a general term for a cold your dog can get if they are exposed to other dogs or areas where other dogs have been. This includes daycare, the groomer, veterinarian’s office, in dog training class, at a dog park, or in your neighborhood on a walk. These infections are similar to a cold in humans and the vast majority of dogs quickly recover. Symptoms include coughing or hacking, sneezing, running nose, eye discharge, lethargy, loss of appetite, and/or fever. If your dog is exhibiting any of these symptoms, you should seek veterinary care immediately to begin treatment and minimize the risk of a secondary infection. Puppies, elderly dogs, and dogs with weakened immune systems are more susceptible to contracting canine cough.
What precautions does Hillsboro Pet Resort take to reduce the risk of kennel cough?
All the dogs in our care are required to be current with vaccinations, including Bordetella, which protects against certain strains of canine cough. Additionally, our facilities are regularly monitored for clean air and have vigorous disinfecting procedures in place. Our team members are trained on canine cough and if symptoms are detected, dogs are immediately isolated, the pet parent is notified, and the dog is either picked up or can be seen by one of our veterinarians.

Daycare
The bond with our furry best friends is irreplaceable, but hectic lifestyles can make it challenging to meet their needs for optimal health and happiness. This can lead to issues like weight gain, anxiety, and undesirable behaviors. Hillsboro Pet Resort doggy day care is the solution to ensure your dog remains healthy and happy throughout their life.
In our safe and affectionate environment, dogs can play, learn, and socialize while staying active. Our focus on canine enrichment involves engaging and rewarding activities that stimulate your dog’s senses, allowing them to learn new skills and gain confidence.
Our specialty lies in Interactive and Enriching Dog Day Care, and no one does it better than us. You can have peace of mind, knowing your furry friend is enjoying a fantastic time with all their buddies.
We recognize the uniqueness of each dog, and tailor each day to cater to their individual needs and preferences, aiming to nurture their bodies, minds, and senses for a healthy, happy, and well-balanced dog.

Exercise
Regular exercise provides numerous physical and mental health benefits for dogs. It helps maintain a healthy weight, strengthens muscles and bones, improves cardiovascular health, and can prevent or manage conditions like obesity, diabetes, and arthritis. Exercise also boosts mood, reduces anxiety, and can alleviate symptoms of depression.

Rest and Relax
Adequate rest helps repair muscles, replenish energy, and maintain overall health. Mental Health: Just like humans, dogs can experience stress and anxiety. Rest provides an opportunity for their brains to process the events of the day and reset. A well-rested dog is more likely to be calm, focused, and happy.

Love and Attention
Love and attention are crucial for a dog's well-being, positively impacting their mental and physical health, and strengthening the bond with their owners and caregivers. Dogs, being social animals, thrive on interaction and positive reinforcement, which reduces stress, boosts mood, and enhances their overall quality of life.

For a Safe & Happy Environment, We Ask That All Dogs Meet These Requirements:
Minimum 4 months of age
Current on required vaccinations (Rabies, Bordetella, DHLPP. Canine Influenza is strongly recommended)
Spayed or neutered (if 8 months or older)
Dog and people friendly

They’ll enjoy all the fun of our play yards and playgrounds while soaking up the undivided attention of a caring staff member.

We do not cut or de-shed any fur. Although we do the best we can with our brush out to remove mats, it is not always possible to do so, and we do not want to hurt the animal. We will notify the owner if there are mats in the fur that were not able to be removed.

Please notify us if your dog does not enjoy being bathed. For the safety of our bathing technicians, we appreciate a head’s up. If your dog exhibits aggressive behavior or signs of extreme stress during bathing, Hillsboro Pet Resort has the right to stop bathing services or refuse a bath or nail trim completely.
Bathing can cause stress for some animals. If your dog is older or in poor health, bathing shall be done at the owner’s risk.
Dogs might still be damp if picked up prior to bath pick-up time of 12:00 p.m. or if their coats are too thick to dry completely with the forced air dryer. We will call if your dog is dry and ready for pick-up sooner than 12:00pm.
Dogs will not be accepted for bathing services if they have open wounds, stitches, or sutures, or if they are post-operative unless written consent is given by a licensed veterinarian.
